Prosper, Texas, is an affluent enclave and suburb located within the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The 2010 United States Census pegged the population of Prosper at 9,423. Prosper is a combination of two original communities: Rock Hill and Richland. The first settlers came to the area in the mid-1840s attracted by the fertile prairie soil that was ideal for growing cotton. The population quickly expanded in the 1870s when 160-acre tracts of land were sold for $3.50 per acre. The communities of Richland and Rock Hill united in 1902 to form the town of Prosper as the St. Louis & San Francisco Railroad came through. Prosper became the central stop for the rail line between the cities of Sherman and Dallas.

Parks And Recreation

Frontier Park is situated just east of Prosper High Shcool. It includes a modern sports complex consisting of three lighted baseball fields, two lighted soccer fields, two lighted softball fields, two sand volleyball courts, a walking trail and a pond.

Attractions and Activities

The West Ridge Golf Course in nearby McKinney has been named the number five overall golf club in the metroplex by AvidGolfer magazine. Avid golfers that like to go for the green in two on par fives will appreciate the fact that there are six par fives at Westridge. This Jeff Brauer-designed facility includes Tiff Eagle Bermuda Grass greens. The par-72 layout offers four sets of tees with the course playing at 7041 yards from the black tees.


Every May, the community holds its Founders Fest, which celebrates the history, the people and the arts of the area. The event includes a 5K race, a music festival, an art show and a Sunday Family Fellowship.
